Not all families can afford school fees and many orphans have no hope of ever learning the basic gift of literacy and escaping in a good book.
Our “little library” offers the following:
- Leveling of learner for understanding of phonetics, letters and compounds
- Ability to understand core concepts of a story
- Books aligned with their interests; almost all materials are Africa-centered or written by local authors
- Recent recruitment of a curriculum lead to formalize learning pathways by the end of Q2,2022
- Flexible seating, play time, and learning games
This project was sponsored by a group of retired educators in the US who came together to help us with the first round of books and learning activities; we continue to add to the title list based on interest; we own and built the office space
